DEREE – The American College of Greece and IKAROS Publishers are organizing an academic conference titledSublime Food: The Poetics and Realities of Gastronomy on the occasion of the publication by IKAROS of Dr. Albert Arouh’s book “The New Greek Cuisine”. The conference will take place at DEREE on April 11.

Dr. Arouh, who writes under the pen nameEpikouros, is one of the most important food critics and Greek gastronomy experts of our time. He is also professor emeritus at DEREE where he taught for almost four decades.

Gastronomy is one of the central elements of any civilization and conference presenters, who teach different disciplines at DEREE, will examine food from a variety of perspectives.

The topics covered at the conference and their presenters are:
·       New Greek Cuisine Cooks Up Greekness– Dr. Albert Arouh, author and gastronomy expert; professor emeritus, DEREE - The American College of Greece
·       Food: The Global Plate - Dr. Gregory Katsas, professor of sociology
·       You Eat What You Are- Dr. Simos Magliveras, professor of anthropology
·       In Vino Poetica Veritas- Dr. Haris Vlavianos, poet; professor of history and political science.
·       An Art Lawful as Eating: Feasting in Shakespeare- Dr. Anastasia Logotheti, professor of English
·       Of Feeding and Being Fed: Women Chefs in Food Films  - Dr. Melenia Arouh, professor of philosophy and communication.
The conference will be held in English.
